MAC MINI REVIEW REDDIT MAC
If you do end up deciding to pull the trigger on it, you will not be disappointed in the slightest. Here is the Apple Mac mini configuration sent to TechRadar for review:ĬPU: 3.6GHz Intel Core i3-8100 (quad-core, 4 threads, 6MB cache) In those cases I'd say wait until the 2nd quarter of 2021 and see what they come out with as you have a newer machine.
MAC MINI REVIEW REDDIT UPGRADE
But is this Mac mini a must have upgrade for people with newer Macs? Absolutely not. Just make sure that the programs you need run either natively or through Rosetta 2 before purchasing. If you need to upgrade and are deciding between this and an intel Mac trust me, the M1 is worth it in every single aspect. This computer handles it more than well enough with absolute no slow down. However, while I am going to return it and opt for the 16gb for longevity and bigger projects/workflows, 8gb is more than enough for the general public. Overall Opinion: The M1 Mac mini is a BEAST of machine, it is very well worth the price and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I even turned off wake for network access and nothing. I've troubleshooted and cannot find why it does this. The other issue is when the Mac mini wakes from sleep randomly in the middle of the night.

While not a HUGE con it really is annoying. In relation to the bluetooth my Magic Mouse seems to randomly disconnect for a couple seconds at a time.

My main problems with this Mac mini are from the bluetooth and the Mac mini randomly waking up for no reason.

Now these other cons may or may not be cause of software issues. Having more ports would also be nice but considering this is the "entry" model it's fine I suppose. It would definitely still be nice to have that option.

Other applications like Zoom, Vpns, Discord run perfectly with no real hiccups at all.Ĭons: If I really had to nitpick not being able to upgrade the ram or ssd is inconvenient but I believe that is the tradeoff for such a fast working machine. asm files so it creates an inconvenience in that aspect. Java compliers like rars run well though they do have certain bugs with opening. Even running programs through Rosetta 2 it runs way better than on my intel Mac, there is some lag while opening certain applications but even then it is very minor. Xcode of course runs amazingly with the new M1 chip and makes running projects a lot faster. All the software I use is compatible so no complaints there. The body of the Mac mini has not gotten anything more than lukewarm. In terms or thermals/performance there has been absolutely no slow down at all.
MAC MINI REVIEW REDDIT CODE
At my peak productivity I have had Discord voice call/video running, an IntelliJ project open, another IntelliJ project but with code with me enabled open, with about 6 tabs open and no slow down at all. I have not gotten it to slow down even while doing intensive work. 99% of the time the ram never goes past 6gb but I will note that swap does reach up to 4gb at times under heavy use. It only being 8gb and running so smooth is amazing to me. Pros: This is an absolute beast of a machine. So this upgrade is quite a big leap for me. Also it is important to note that I upgraded from a 2012 Mac mini i5 16gb. I have no tried much gaming except from downloading Among Us. So if you're looking for information on photo/video editing unfortunately I could not be of help in those aspects. So I've had the M1 Mac mini for a little over a week now and I would love to share my thoughts on it for people who are on the fence about getting one.īackground info: I am a CS student currently and use apps just for coding.
